THE DON PHILLIPS STORY- WINNER OF 6 GOLD MEDALS- NAT’L SR. GAMES-2015
Don Phillips, turned 85 years old on July 23, just a few days after winning 6 Gold Medal at the July National Games in the Twin Cities of MN. His Thursday Track schedule at the Games included the 400 M and 50 M pre-lims, and 800 M and 100 M Finals (he won); The Friday schedule included the Finals for the 50, 200, 400 M’s which he won, and since he was “on a roll” he capped it off with a win in a 4x100 Relay which when all was said and done, he had won 6 Gold Medals! Don whose career was that of a Veterinarian, has participated in Sr. Games for 23 years.
Don had participated in 7 previous National Senior Games and had won 6 Silvers and 3 Bronze Medals, but never before Gold. His goal in 2015 was to win at least 1 Gold. With winning 6, he surpassed his Goal!! Congratulations, Don!
Don and his wife Laverla live in Sioux Falls, SD, but are former residents of Coleman, SD where they lived for 40 years. They have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. Congratulations to Don on going 6 for 6 in Gold!
